I am informed that Mr Cleaver, late Chief Inspector of Nuisances, was not transferred from the Police Force to the Surveyor General's Department but resigned the Police of his own free will, and received from the Captain Superintendent the bonus of three months' pay to which he was entitled by the terms of Clause 5 of his original contract with the Crown Agents in London. Having resigned the Police service absolutely in 1844, Mr Cleaver has no claim under his original agreement; and (it is stated) when he was in the Colony, he never preferred any claim to a Police pension.
In the official papers sent home, Mr Marsh's pension was calculated as if he were an ordinary civil servant with over ten years' service, who had been invalided as unfit for further duty in the climate.
3. It further appears that as Mr Cleaver's pension was calculated on the emoluments which he received after he left the Police Force, it is not the value of his Police...
